ACTIVITY 5

1. What can you say to educators who say technology in teaching takes time and is expensive?

Technology is invented to make life more comfortable. Since technological advancements are inevitable, we should be able to know how to use them to our advantage.
The problem of some traditional teachers is that they resist change, even if it is for the better. This resistance applies to the use of technology. The very first notion of these educators about technology is that it is expensive and it is hard to handle. They would stick to the traditional ways that they already know instead of venturing into something new because they don’t want to be inconvenienced.
My suggestion to them would be that they should take the risk. They should consider investing in technology and learning or trying their best to learn how to use it. Gadgets, such as laptop computers, printers or projectors, may be an expensive investment, but in the long run, they would learn to appreciate their value.
Yes, it is probably difficult to use these gadgets at first, but it can be learned. It would take time to master but isn’t it that the teachers are forever learners? We should not deprive ourselves of these new things. After all, they are meant to be used for our convenience.

2. What can you say about teachers who use media simply to make classes entertaining and fun?

One of the functions of the technological media is to entertain. The web offers a lot of it to anybody who has as internet access. With proper selection and usage, they could make a class entertaining and fun.
I have nothing against teachers who make use of these technological media to make their classes more entertaining and fun. I believe that a class should be interactive enough to the point of learners having fun, as long as learning takes place. I know for a fact that if a class is enjoyable, the learners would be eager to learn. However, the teacher should be responsible enough to know the limits of having fun, because in a classroom, fun can never be enough.

3. What could future learners have as an advantage over present day learners?

Through the internet, the world has opened up its doors to unlimited knowledge. Everything can be accessed by any learner, anytime, anywhere. But the learners of today are still torn between the old ways and the new things.

The advantage of the future learners would be that they would be more comfortable to use the technologies. They would have enough time to master the new gadgets we have today and they will not be hesitant to use it every day of their lives. Technology would be fully integrated in their lives that the quest for knowledge would be very convenient. Everything that the future learners would want to know would be just a click, swipe or tap away.
